Accounting entries, ledgers and reports straight from your documents

smetni's Accounting module connects invoices, expenses and payments to your company's books. Choose a start date and use a ready-made chart of accounts. Add manual entries and reversals, close the month and prepare financial statements with your accountant.

How it works

The books start from a date you choose together with your accountant.

  1. Choose a start date

The administrator chooses the accounting start date. smetni loads a ready-made chart of accounts and posts documents from that date onwards.

  2. Enter the opening balances

smetni suggests opening balances from open receivables and payables and from bank statements. You check them and save the entry.

  3. Work through the month

Entries for invoices, expenses, payments, salaries and depreciation are created automatically. You add manual entries and reversals.

  4. Close and report

You check the trial balance and the general ledger and close the month. After year end you prepare the balance sheet and the income statement.

Frequently asked questions

Does smetni replace my accountant?

No. smetni posts documents automatically and shows the ledgers and reports, but the start date, the chart of accounts, corrections and the financial statements should be reviewed by an accountant. Invite them to the organisation with the Accountant role so they work with the same data.

How do I correct a wrong entry?

First check where the error is: in the document, the payment or the entry itself. The entry is corrected with a reversal entry with negative amounts (storno), followed by a new entry. If the month is closed, the reversal is posted in the next open month. Opening balances are corrected with a new opening balance entry, not with a reversal.

Can I switch from other accounting software?

Yes. You choose a start date for the books and enter the opening balances smetni suggests from open receivables and payables and from bank statements. You enter fixed assets with accumulated book and tax depreciation at 31 December of the previous year, and their general ledger balances separately.

Which financial statements can I prepare?

A management balance sheet and income statement for the year, plus the annual financial statements in the form for a micro, small, or medium and large enterprise, compared with the previous year and with a PDF to download. The statements are reviewed by an accountant, and publishing them in the Commercial Register is a separate step.

Who sees what in Accounting?

The Admin and Accountant roles work with every section. The Viewer role sees the reports and the chart of accounts, but not the entries, the trial balance, the general ledger or dividends. Only the administrator enables accounting and closes the month and the year.

Which plan includes Accounting?

Accounting and the asset register are in Business and Enterprise. The same plans include Bank, Personnel and Declarations, so payments, salaries and VAT are reflected in the same books. Business includes up to 5 users.
